Originally printed in the 1920ies this is the log of James Clyman a frontiersman, trapper who lived 1792-1881. It tells of his travels across the western territory from the 1820ies to the 1870ies. He traded in furs, walked most of the most of the way, was with Jedediah Smith and his first brigade, encountered the Donner Party, and in one feat he walked alone across 600 miles of the great Plains to Fort Atkinson.
