Although we may not know the symbolic meaning of Indian headdress, we find them to be almost breathtakingly beautiful works of art. It has been recorded that the Sioux Indians created what is now considered the traditional Indian headdress. This is the feathered headdress often seen on warriors and chiefs in paintings and pictures. Only the most brave and powerful of the tribe wore headdresses; each feather signifying a brave act performed. The magnificent splendor of a Native American chieftan is dramatically displayed in this rare design for the needlepoint artist by Sara Gutierrez.
