The purple Chilean Maqui Berry is one of the most antioxidant-rich foods. It contains an abundance of vitamin C, calcium, iron and potassium, anti-aging anthocyanins and polyphenols, and anti-inflammatory compounds.

The Maqui (Aristotelia Chilensis) plant is an evergreen shrub growing throughout the pristine Patagonian mountain region of southern Chile. The berries have been both a staple food and part of rituals and ceremonies for the Mapuche Indians—one of the longest-living cultures in the world. The maqui berry was considered a sacred plant symbolizing goodwill by Mapuche communities.

The rich, dark purple berries are said to contain more antioxidants than any discovered food on earth, making them an excellent addition to any diet. The Maqui berry has a wonderful, slightly tart flavor that has been described as having hints of blackberry, blueberry, watermelon, and acai.
Information about the Maqui Plant: Maqui berry (Aristotelia Chilensis) is a vibrant purple fruit that grows abundantly across fields and hillsides in southern Chile. As a plentiful berry bush that grows wild, cultivation has proven to be unnecessary. Maqui contains 300 percent more anthocyanins and 150 percent more polyphenols than any known food or drink, including wine. For generations, the Mapuche Indians have consumed maqui as a fermented beverage. As legend has it, the Mapuche Indians are the only unconquered people of South America. Nourished by maqui, they fought the Spaniards for over 300 years. And won. Today, Mapuche families come together to hand pick the berries in a traditional fashion. The plants are naturally organic as long as their growing habitats are protected from industrial pollutants and encroachment.

Growing, Maqui Berry Plants are easy to grow evergreen shrubs. They will grow in almost any type of well-draining soil, light-sandy, Medium-loamy, and heavy-clay. It prefers slightly acidic or neutral soils. The Maqui Berry needs full sun and can be grown indoors if given enough light. Maqui Berries can be grown under a strong, full spectrum, artificial light or they can be set by a window that gets direct sunlight for at least 8 hours every day.

Shipping: Orders are shipped via USPS Mail unless otherwise specified. We tend to have less than a five day turnaround time for shipping.
