A very fine original oil painting on canvas depicting figures by candlelight by an early, probably 18th century, follower of Godfried Schalcken. A beautifully and expertly painted example.
Condition
In very fine condition. The canvas lined in probably the early 20th century. There is fine craquelure throughout. There are two small punctures to the canvas near the hands lower right with a very small amount of associated paint loss. Clean, attractive, framed and ready to hang.

Godfried Schalcken was a Dutch genre and portrait painter. He was noted for his mastery in reproducing the effect of candlelight, and painted in the exquisite and highly polished manner of the Leiden fijnschilders.
