Finding this exceptional piece of art is my pleasure to present to you today. This artist creates magnificent illustrations in gorgeous Caribbean tropical color hues. My photos do not give the print due justice in what it looks like in person. If you ever had the pleasure to visit the Caribbean tropics of the lower Florida Keys to view the water, this is a fine example of the blue hues that he has captured in his illustration. Two large beautiful tropic fish swimming under the protection of the orange and yellow living plants. The art he created makes them appear lifelike. You will be very pleased with this purchase as this is truly high quality work. Jean-Baptiste had named this art illustration: MAHI MAHI.
This is a RARE and a LIMITED EDITION ISSUE with the NUMBER IN THE LOWER LEFT CORNER AREA 293 / 400. (Two hundred Ninety Three out of four hundred Copy Issued). The original artist has SIGNED in pencil his signature and the issue number at the bottom edge on the white border. Printed on very thicker size paper linen stock.
ARTIST: Daniel Gabriel Angelo Jean-Baptiste ( 1963 - )
Biography taken from his website. Born to Dutch Jewish and African, Kalinago Carib descent, Daniel Jean-Baptiste is a Caribbean artist living in the paradise of St. Lucia where sunny skies and abundant water life provide constant inspiration. His artwork depicts underwater scenes, game fish and their prey, tropical botanical themes, and exotic animals.
In 1995 Jean-Baptiste moved back to St. Lucia with his wife and two children. His work reflecting the beauty of the island’s fish and flowers. Jean-Baptiste focuses in on his subject, magnifying its beauty and vibrant colour. The translucency of his work allows light to further enhance the silk’s natural luster.
Besides his unique artistry, what makes Daniel’s creations particularly special is his use of 10mm Habotai silk as his canvas. The silk’s translucency and natural luster enhance the colors and add a special vibrancy. Daniel is also the originator of the shimmering light water technique, creating delicate hues of color and light by painting wet-on-wet method in which liquid paints are delicately applied using small Sumi bamboo sheep hair brushes.
He is the originator of the shimmer light water technique. Today he resides and paints out of his studios in Canada and St. Lucia.
Illustration is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. No flaws to speak of.
FRAME MEASUREMENTS:
Housed in a very LARGE Antique Wood Frame that has ornate vines and leaves for its design. Finished off on both sides of the design with half round bead work. Resprayed a newer gold color that compliments the artwork.
ORIGINAL OLD WAVY GLASS to the frame. A very nice LARGE SOFA SIZE PICTURE. Overall the frame measures 32-1/4 wide by 25 inches high BY 2-1/2 Inch Frame Edge.
PRINT MEASURES:
The back print measurement is 27-3/4 inches wide by 20-1/4 inches high.
