Vintage "I'm Doin' Time (In a Prison of Mem'ries)" country music song contract and royalty agreement.
This is the original contract signed by the song's writers (or heirs) and witnesses. Songwriters are Mary Jean Shurtz, Eugene Wellman, Chaw Mank and Anthony Sytula. Sytula was already deceased at the time. It's also signed by Russell E. Hull of the Hull House Music Group, Vienna, Ohio.
Comes in Bell Music Co. envelope postmarked Vienna, OH, Dec. 17, 1982
Contract is redated Nov. 19, 1982. Comes with letter from Bell Music Co.'s P. Amos Carterdale concerning a tribute song written by Chaw Mank for Hank Williams Sr. and the opening of an office in Nashville.
"I'm Doin' Time (In a Prison of Mem'ries)" was first copyrighted in 1952 by Chaw Mank's Blue Ribbon Music Co. This updated 1982 contract with raised seal imprint from 1952 is a reassignment of rights to the song.
Everything here is in crisp near mint/mint condition. Mary Jean Shurtz, Eugene Wellman and Chaw Mank all wrote songs for such artists as Mac Wiseman, Webb Pierce, The Wilburn Brothers, Billy Walker, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Van Morrison, The Country Gentlemen, Ted Hawkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ricky Skaggs, et al.
This item comes directly from the estate of Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer.
