Authentically autographed green cloth square from Maryland Governor Marvin Mandel (1920-2015). It dates from 1978.
Mandel served as the governor of Maryland from 1969-79 and chaired the National Governors Association from 1972-73. Mandel was convicted in 1977 of mail fraud and racketeering and did a stretch in federal prison. Mandel's conviction was overturned in 1987.
Thick cloth square measures 5 x 9 inches and is signed: "Marvin Mandel, Annapolis, March 3, 1978. Also included is a note from the governor's office and the original mailing envelope postmarked Annapolis, MD., Mar. 16, 1978.
Cloth square is in near mint/mint condition. A unique item. Signed before Mandel reported to federal prison camp at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. His sentence was later commuted by President Ronald Reagan in 1981.
This item comes directly from the estate of Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer.
