Johnny Whitney Big Band 1944 Autographed Letter & Jimmy Barnett Photo Omaha Nebraska
Original Johnny Whitney autographed letter on personal stationery dated Feb. 1, 1944. Letter is on both sides and discusses a pair of World War II songs, bandleader Jimmy Barnett, the Music Box ballroom in Omaha, sheet music, et al. Signed in black fountain pen: "Johnny Whitney."
He has also enclosed a photo of bandleader Jimmy Barnett, a.k.a. "The Irish Maestro." Comes in original mailing envelope postmarked Omaha, Nebr., Feb. 4, 1944.
John "Jack" Whitney headed his own swing band, Johnny Whitney and His Orchestra. He and his wife Mabel and young son Jay later migrated to Burbank, California, in 1949, where Jack served as Mayor from 1963-64 and 1967-68. Whitney died in 1997; his wife Mabel in 2005.
Letter is in near mint condition. Jimmy Barnett photo shows some creasing from original mailing in 1944.
This item comes directly from the estate of Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer.
