At one time, Omnipure offered this particular cartridge with either coal based carbon (Q5633) or coconut shell carbon (Q5640). They stopped making any cartridges with coal based carbon about 10 years ago and went exclusively to coconut shell carbon in all of their filters. However, their Q5633 part number was so popular that they decided to label some of the Q5640 part number as Q5633 even though they were identical in every way. They have done this across all of their product lines.
