The Battle or Siege of Adrianople during the first Balkan War in 1913. - 8x10 photo "The Battle or Siege of Adrianople duringthe first Balkan War in 1913. The Battle or Siege of Adrianople (Bulgarian: ?????? ?? ?????,Serbian: ?????? ???????, Turkish: Edirne Kusatmasi) was fought during the First Balkan War,beginning in mid-November 1912 and ending on 26 March 1913 with the capture of Edirne (Adrianople)army and brought to a close the First Balkan War.[8] The victorious end of the siege was consideredan enormous military success because the defenses of city were carefully developed by leadingGerman siege experts and were dubbed 'undefeatable'. The Bulgarian army, after 5 months of siegeand two bold night attacks, took the Ottoman stronghold. The victors were under the overallcommand of General Nikola Ivanov, and the commander of the Bulgarian forces on the Eastern sectorand General Vladimir Vazov. One early use of an airplane for bombing took place during the siege:the Bulgarians dropped special hand grenades from one or more airplanes in an effort to causepanic among Turkish soldiers. Many young Bulgarian officers and professionals who took partin this decisive battle of the First Balkan War, later played important roles in the politics, culture, commerce and industry of Bulgaria. The First Balkan War (Bulgarian: ????????? ?????,Balkan Savasi), which lasted from October 1912 to May 1913, comprised actions of the BalkanLeague (Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece and Montenegro) against the Ottoman Empire. The combined armiesof the Balkan states overcame the numerically inferior and strategically disadvantaged Ottomanarmies and achieved rapid success. As a result of the war, the allies captured and partitionedalmost all remaining European territories of the Ottoman Empire. Ensuing events also led toover the division of the spoils in Macedonia, which provoked the start of the Second BalkanWar." Pickid: 513058 This is a high quality REPRODUCTION print.
