  • Description
Description: Here's a nice vintage over-sized matchbook cover from the Americana Inn, located on Touhy Ave. at River Road in Des Plaines, Illinois, and the Americana Motel, located on Mannheim Road at North Ave., in Stone Park, Illinois. Both offered a Restaurant, Cocktails, and Swimming Pool. The phone numbers are given in the old style as "CYpress 9-2251" and "FIllmore 5-1500".

The inside bears a simple map showing the locations of the inn and motel, both in the vicinity of O'Hare Airport. It also provides directions for those traveling on the Northwest or Congress Expressways, or the Tri-State Tollway.

Produced by Match Corp. of America, Chicago

Actual Size: approx. 2" x 2" (closed)

Date: Not dated, but those old-style phone numbers and expressway names probably date it to the late 1950s or early 1960s

Condition: Good, I'd say. The cover is just lightly soiled, but there's some damage to the striker strip area due to the removal of the staple that held the matches. There's also an additional set of staple holes which pass through the striker strip and both sides of the cover. (Please see scans.)
