While many of their peers in the Canadian indie rock scene take their musical inspiration from the pillars of 1980s new wave, Ontario's Constantines look to more rugged classic rockers when creating their noisy everyman jams. The Cons' third album, TOURNAMENT OF HEARTS, kicks off with the booming minimalism of "Draw Us Lines" setting up an album's worth of sweaty, ragged-glory guitar rock, including the rootsy "Soon Enough." The Springsteen comparisons are inevitable, based equally on singer Bryan Webb's raspy shouts and the albums lyrics, all street tough poetry and desperate romanticism. And when the chorus to "Working Full-Time" reaches its anthemic pinnacle, it's hard not to imagine the Boss being pleased.
