  • Description
This game allows students to match prefixes with their meanings. There is an answer key included and directions for a learning center included as well. There are 44 prefix cards, 44 meaning cards, and 4 additional blanks cards for replacement. You can see a complete list in the answer key picture, however the prefixes inclued common ones (such as re, pre, para, and circum) and a few less common ones (such as ab, peri, and under).

For younger students, I make the game a little smaller by just breaking it up into four groups. I still use the same answer key.
I have used these for students who were preparing for the SAT, ACT, and a military test. They all seemed to benefit from reviewing or learning these prefixes and applying them to words they didn't know the meaning for.

First, the students learn, or review, the prefixes I want them to focus on. This can be all of them or just a few of them, depending on the grade level. Then, I work with them on applying what they have learned to words with unknow definitions. I'll usually try to discuss some words they already know too, so they can practice and understand how knowing prefixes helps them.
