EARLY DAYS IN WELLESLEY by Gamaliel Bradford (Hardcover, 1929)
Description: Very interesting historical narrative subtitled: Being Casual Recollections of Boyhood and Later Years--1867 to 1881. The book consists of a collection of reminiscences by a prominent lifelong resident of the town of Wellesley, Massachusetts, dating back to the days before it was even called Wellesley, when it was known as West Needham (and Wellesley Hills was the village of Grantville). The book is illustrated with photos and portraits, as shown in the sample pages, above.
These stories about the people and places of Mr. Bradford's youth were originally published in 1928 as a series of articles in the local newspaper, the Townsman. They were then published in book form later that year by the Wellesley Historical Society. This edition was published and distributed the following year by the Wellesley National Bank in commemoration of its 25th Anniversary.
Published: The Wellesley National Bank, 1929
Condition: Very good, I'd say. The front cover has a couple of light white spots and the back cover has several more of the same. The original owner's name is written at the upper right corner of the first page. Pages 42 and 43 have a light brown, but transparent, coffee (?) stain that looks like the book was closed while a drop or two of liquid was on the page, with the stains on the two pages mirroring each other. There are no creases, tears, or other extraneous markings in the book.
**NOTE**: Shipping charges are discounted when more than one of my items are purchased at the same time. See what else I have to offer!
