Here's some info or review .....Eva Saelens, a.k.a. Inca Ore has played in numerous bands and projects, punk, post-rock and noise artists (Portland’s Alarmist, Jackie-O Motherfugker and Yellow Swans, to name but a few). Lemon Bear is composer and multi-instrumentalist living in Oakland, CA. 5RC describes him as, “…a musician living in total obscurity in his devotion to music and obsessive practice.” Unsurprising then, that there is a pronounced musical anarchy in the vast range of chaotic sounds and moods visited in The Birds in the Bushes (5RC). To say that this record is experimental would be an understatement. It is avant, but not avant rock. Post, but not post rock. More akin to John Cage than, say, Tortoise or Slint. There are elements of Collage, atmospheric nature sounds (birds and monkeys), and free-noise folk. The vocals include whispers, speaking, singing, screaming and, frankly terrifying shrieks.
It goes without saying then that the emotions or states of being from song to song and even within the same song run the gamut. There are shrieks and wails and other contorted vocal sounds that call to mind Meredith Monk and Patty Waters. There are also meditative, dream-like passages, as in the third track, Blue Train, a song about swans flying to Nova Scotia. It opens with a barely audible acoustic guitar figure and a Navaho flute. The vocals convey a childlike naïveté and wonder. At one point the music quiets down and stops, then starts again, like beginning to wake up, then willing the dream to go on a little longer.
USED, but in great condition. NO scratches and NO signs of abuse or misuse.
