Fisherman's Friend Lozenges was formulated by pharmacist James Lofthouse in 1865 at Lancashire, England, to relieve various respiratory problems suffered by the local fishermen working in the freezing cold and harsh conditions of the Icelandic deep-sea fishing grounds. From then on, the fishermen never went offshore without the lozenges that was referred to affectionately as their “friend”. As you might have already guessed, this is how the name of the product - Fisherman's Friend comes about.
