Here is a most unusual porcelain bowl and lid from Keramos, a very old and recognized manufacturer of beautiful pottery pieces and animal sculptures.
Keramos was known as a professional Ceramic Engineering fraternity, which was founded in 1902, to promote camaraderie between Ceramic Engineers and to promote ceramics in general.
The 2 piece abstract apple-shaped bowl and lid is in an Art Deco style--with beautiful curves and angles. The gold-trimmed lid has an unusual swirling type finial-like handle, which looks like the stem of an apple.The bowl is highly styled and at the same time lovely to look at and use. It has "good vibes", lending a gentle presence to wherever you place it. The bottom of the bowl is marked with "WIEN" over the Keramos banner logo. and "Made in Austria" at the bottom. It has an unreadable number incised into the bottom of bowl. There is no damage except for a wear to the gold on the bowl. However, it almost looks natural, much like the gold wash used by Stangl Pottery. The bowl has a 6" diameter. and is 3 1/2 " tall; the lid is 2 1/2 " tall from its golden edged lip to the top of the gold stem. Except for the wear to the bowl's gold, it is in excellent condition.
