The Clarks are a welcome addition to a too-short list of successful Pittsburgh, PA bands. The quartet's poppy take on guitar-based Americana music is a breath of fresh air. With Justin Niebank's loose production, which lends both the album-opening "Hell on Wheels" and "Anymore" a spacious feel, the group reveals a depth of songwriting skill only hinted at on the previous outings ANOTHER HAPPY ENDING and LET IT GO.
The title track is a down-tempo slice of acoustic introspection, while "Gypsy Lounge" breaks out the pedal steel in a nod to the band's country roots, and "Train" is a further affirmation of their commitment to the essence of country rock. The ensemble's strong affinity for pop/country crossover is apparent on both the Avril Lavigne-like "Take Your Time" and the catchy "Shimmy Low," making FAST MOVING CARS a widely appealing winner for the Pennsylvania combo.
