Mermaids have been part of folklore, mythology, books, movies, documentaries. They've been portrayed as saviors of humans during perilous storms and shipwrecks, falling in love with mortal men and also as sirens of the deep, dangerous and menacing. Whichever you choose, they have been a fascination for many.
This necklace was inspired by one of my favorite movies growing up named "La Petite Sirene" it's an old cartoon film from France where unlike the happy ending we see in the more popular version of the little mermaid, she sacrifices herself in the end and returns to the ocean to die and becomes meerschaum (seafoam) or "ecume de mer" in the film, it's sad story but I still love it nonetheless.
Inside the glass dome ( which measures about 1 1/2'' and about 1'' across making it the perfect size )is a highly detailed hand sculpted ( no molds used - ever! ) tiny mermaid. She measures a mere 1 1/4'' tall from top to tail.
Her tail is black with a silver wash over. Tiny scales were carved in, she has fluttery grey "fins" on either side and back and a large silvery delicate fin that wraps around the coral's edge. She wears a silver shell bra and a tiny silver bangle around her wrist. In her hands is a single genuine Swarovski crytal in a clear iridescent color. She wears a string of white pearls around her waist and her long black hair have silvery highlights to them.
She is sitting on some coral rocks that are also textured and grooved.Surrounding the coral rocks are some textured sponge corals in vivid colors and delicate seaweeds here and there.
The whole sculpture has been glazed to a wet sea look. The scenery is completed with real sand on the bottom. Everything (including the sand) has been glued down so nothing will get messed up. The glass dome has also been secured down and will not budge.
At the top of the dome is a single silver plated seashell charm to complement this piece.
The pendant hangs from a generous 32'' long silver plated chain with a spring ring closure. However I also added a second jump ring at 24'' point should you choose to wear the chain a bit shorter, making this necklace convenient to wear with any outfit.
This item comes in a pretty gift box and is bubble wrapped for extra precaution.
