Awesome hill tribe pendant from the Hmong (known as "Miao" in China), made by hand in the villages along the border of Laos and China. Traditionally worn as an earring, but I made it into a pendant. (we do also have the earring pair for sale)
Hand etched designs on the one side, simple silver on the other.
The Hmong believe that silver has the ability to influence spirits, and this type of jewelry plays a very important spiritual and cultural role in their society.
I collected this piece, and all other Hmong artifacts in my shop, during my many travels through Hmong villages over the past couple years.
Made with silver and brass. The pendant is about 2 inches (5cm) long. The chain is silver plated, and about 18 (45.7) inches.
A wonderful artifact of traditional Hmong craftsmanship and artistic heritage!
