It claims to be the first coffee company to pack and ship roasted coffee in sealed tins. In more recent times, an antique advertisement depicting a husband spanking his wife for not buying quality coffee has been circulated around the Internet. This has been reprinted as an example of the sexism that was purportedly considered more acceptable during that time period.The company was part of Standard Brands from its formation in 1929 until 1981 when the company merged into Nabisco.
