My father, now 84, in a retirement home, has asked me to sell this gorgeous book on his behalf. An avid collector and book lover his whole life, he purchased this book upon its initial release in 1979. It has been in our family ever since.
This massive and beautifully illustrated book features the largest number of Currier & Ives prints ever reproduced in a single volume, as well as many that have never been published. It contains more than 400 illustrations (lithographs) of which more than 300 are in full color largest. It is the largest number of Currier & Ives ever reproduced in one volume - including several never before published. This is definitely an extraordinary collectible piece of Americana! 12” x 15-1/4", 488 pages, 12 Pounds!
This book is a First Edition, 1979 Edition.
. Excellent dust jacket: few speckles of white in gold letter print lost on front cover; 4 point like indentations in upper half of white cover, side cover has more indentations in the thick book cover, and the back numerous pen like indentations in the middle, BUT NO COLORED MARKS, like finely embossed lines in paper. DOES NOT DETRACT FROM THE OVERALL APPPEARANCE.
. Book: A perfect fresh, clean, unmarked and firmly bound copy. The pages are all crisp and fine. Bound in heavy black/white woven cloth, there is an oval color illustration pasted on the front cover within gilt borders; gilt spine lettering. The cover is perfectly clean. The binding and hinges are also perfect. The outside bottom pages have pin hole like indentations, very superficial; top and side pages are perfect. All printed pages within the book are perfect, like new. On the inside first page is neatly printed, last name of owner and "Christmas, 1979".
