PALESTINE "Rishon LeZion: The High Street" byKunstanstalt Max Jaffe(1877-), Vienna, Austria- well known Viennese printer and publisher."JUEDISCHE ZEITUNG" PUBLISHING COMPANYREAL PHOTOSTONE LITHOGRAPHYPhotos Taken by Leo Kahan, a photographer sent to Eretz Yisrael (Land of Israel) by the Viennese Yidishe Zeitung newspaper in 1912.size (only photo): 11.5 x 8 cmRishon was founded on 31 July 1882 by a group of 10 members of the Zionist group Hovevei Zion from Kharkov, in modern Ukraine. Led by Zalman David Levontin, they purchased 835 acres (3.4 km²) of land south-east of present-day Tel Aviv for this purpose near an Arab village named Eyun Kara. It is considered the first Zionist settlement in Palestine and its founders were members of the First Aliya.
