The treble clef chime is made from A-36, a generic hot-rolled low carbon steel. All the forming operations are done at a temperature range of 1800 to 2400⁰F, which is orange hot, way past red hot. The two ends of a 30” long x ½” round rod are tapered. The clef is then formed around a bending jig I made for this specific application. After the clef has cooled, a hole is drilled and a leather thong is cut, inserted and tied.
The striker is made from a 10” long piece of the same material, and is formed at the same temperature range.
One end is tapered some, and then that end is bent into a loop for the hanging handle.
