THIS IS A VERY ACCURATE AND LEGENDARY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT! RE-CALIBRATED TO N.I.S.T. STANDARDS! This Abbe refractometer is an excellent, affordable high end instrument for the refractive index (nD) analysis of liquids, glass, plastics and film.Leica (Reichert Analytical Instruments) manufactured these bench-top Refractometers and they are specifically designed to combine consistency and accuracy with high throughput. They provide digital readouts at the touch of a button and automatically compensate for temperature in the Brix reading mode. They are designed to automatically compensate percent solids as Brix readings for variations in temperature. Measurements are automatically corrected to 20°C. In most cases, this eliminates the need for thermometers, water baths and correction charts. The actual prism temperature can also be displayed for convenient reference. Refractometers provide a digital readout of refractive index, percent solids as Brix, temperature compensated percent solids as Brix and temperature.
This unit is a FACTORY Refurbished unit that has been re-calibrated and comes with a Certificate of Calibration verifying its decontamination and Accuracy. This will come with the unit. The unit also comes with a proper foam contoured shipping box (not the unit in a box, wrapped in newspaper). EASY TO USE
Operation consists of placing a sample on the prism; while looking through the eyepiece, the control knob is turned until theshadow lineis centered in thecross-hairs. The reading is taken where the vertical line crosses the scale. Calibrates with water. Uses strong ambient light to run! PRISM TEMPERATURE CONTROL Featuring 2 BRAND NEW circulatory nozzles for the primary prism and 2 BRAND NEW nozzles for the secondary prism, model MARK II can be connected to a circulating bath to accurately regulate prism temperature (Peltier System). FILM TESTING Transparent or translucent film samples can be measured with the use of a glass standard (aids in the illumination of the sample), contact liquid (adhered the sample to the glass standard and to the primary prism), and an external sodium light source (sold separately).
Note: The refractive index (nD) value of the sample must be lower than that of the contact liquid and the glass standard. The included bromonaphtalene contact liquid has a refractive index (nD) value of 1.6300. The included glass standard has a refractive index value (nD) of 1.5163.GLASS AND PLASTIC TESTINGTransparent or translucent glass and plastic samples cam be measured with the use of a contact liquid (adheres the sample to the primary prism), and an external sodium light source (sold separately).Note:The refractive index (nD) of the sample must be lower that that of the contact liquid.
