Sharni is a one of a kind art doll inspired by Hindu dress. Shasti, the Hindu Goddess of childbirth and protector of children, is traditionally depicted riding a cat, and cats are worshipped along with this Goddess on the sixth day following a child's birth.
Dolls start with a body sculpted using a cloth plaster technique resulting in a firm yet lightweight base, in the 'stump doll' style made popular in Tudor England. Doll heads and paws are sculpted in Fimo air dry clay and hand painted with their own features. Each doll then evolves individually, the finished item achieved by intuitively adding decoration as the work progresses, culminating in a unique Art Doll.
