AIR FRANCE - 1956 VICKERS VISCOUNT POSTCARD WITH FIAT NEW 500 CAR CANCEL
Vickers "Viscount" - Completely silent and lightning swift, the Viscount's four Rolls-Royce turbo-prop motors eliminate all vibration.
A fine and rare Air France item for aviation postcards, Fiat cars, postal history and Air France collectors.
Original, vintage Air France postcard used on flight to Rome and posted to Istanbul, Turkey from Italy on 07.7.1957. The message is in Turkish and translates as "We are flying towards Rome. We kiss you much. Greetings to your grand father."
Franked with 3 Italian definitive stamps and cancelled with FIAT propaganda cancel, publicising "la nuova 500" (The New Fiat 500 automobile). Very interesting from the first year of its manufacture for the fans of the legendary midget. Exactly 50 years from its birth, Fiat has given rebirth to the new 500, this year.
The recipient of the card is Prof. Cem Taylan (then a child). Born in 1946 and died in 2001, during sabbatical at New York University. He was a prominent professor at Bogaziçi University in Istanbul, lecturing on translation, poetry and cinematography. He was a graduate of Istanbul ('72), Reading ('74) and Keele ('78) universities.
