Cover description (from magazine): There are many reasons for putting rocks in rock gardens. They help prevent topsoil from washing away. They keep roots moist. They take up space which weeds might otherwise occupy. And as the poor sap on George Hughes's cover demonstrates, they keep husbands in condition. Observe that two people wear the pants in this young family. Also note that he's wearing the loafers and she's doing the loafing. "Were those the biggest rocks you could find, Andrew?" she wants to know. "Well, let's put one halfway between the stone lantern and my hat. ... Move it to the right just a squinch. ... H'm-m-m. ... Now turn it upside down." Obviously, the plants are not the only objects in this scene that are potted. The lady of the house is drunk with power, and poor Andrew is stoned. --
