Wayang Kulit is a traditional theater art-form from Java (Indonesia) and Kelantan (Malaysia) using puppets and shadow-play to tell the epic tales of the ancient classical Hindu legends, Mahabharata and Ramayana. The puppets are made of buffalo hide and mounted on bamboo sticks. Rama and Sita everlasting love for each other is vividly portrayed in the ancient Hindu epic, Ramayana. Their love stories in the epic are so intense that it was commonly compared parallelly to that of Romeo and Juliet. Rama is the main protagonist in Ramayana. Portrayed as the seventh avatar of the God Vishnu, he is the eldest and favourite son of the King of Ayodhya. In the ancient epic, Rama is portrayed as the epitome of virtue. Sita is the beloved wife of Rama. She is the avatar of Goddess Lakhsmi, the consort of Vishnu. Sita is portrayed as the epitome of female purity and virtue. In the Ramayana epic, Sita follows her husband in exile and is abducted by the demon king, Ravana of Lanka. Ravana wanted to make Sita his wife, but after many attempts, Sita still refuses to give in. Sita was rescued by her beloved husband Rama who, together with Hanuman, and his monkey army, defeated Ravana in the epic battle of Lanka.
