The dress, both jacket and sarong is an example of superb embroidery of the utmost craftsmanship's. A cross shaped embroidered chest piece is known as a ‘Sa-lwe’, a royal insignia. The long sarong is found ‘correctly’ tucked up to the waist with the terminal piece hanging down from it. This is the only specimen where a gents’ sarong is correctly dressed close to tradition. On his head he wears a traditional crown known as a 'Gaung-Baung'

Things you should know about the legend.

This is an incredible piece! The “warrior” depicted here is hand carved, painted, and dressed in richly intricate hand-stitched Burmese fabrics. According to the artist, the warrior is an 18-year Burmese theater veteran, having taken the stage many times in the past. Due to the rapid decline of marionette craftsmanship in Burma, this piece is exceptionally rare. With the recent U.S. lift on Burma import ban, you can be one of the first to own one of these beautiful handmade, wooden string puppets.

Things you should know about Burmese Puppetry (Yoke Thay).
According to written records Burmese puppets sometimes called Marionettes, first made their appearance on the cultural scene in the 15th century and was at its peak of popularity during the 18th century. The king patronised his own troupe, as did the queen, princes and other nobility. Other troupes would roam the country playing at Pagoda festivals, which are the country fairs of Myanmar. Often these troupes performances would include various scenarios of what was going on in the court circles, including royal scandals, much to the enjoyment of the villagers.
