Victorian Trade Card - Arbuckle Brothers Coffee Company - Working Donkey w/ Cart
SERIES: Short Set of Donkeys
This is one of a small set of 4 cards depicting donkeys and advertising the "Ariosa" brand of coffee that Arbuckles' issued in the late 1880s. This card shows a winter scene with a man apparently selling bundles of flowers while his donkey patiently waits nearby with a whole cart load of more shrubbery. The artist's signature appears to be "C. White".
The back carries Arbuckles' familiar "4 Points" sales pitch.
NOTE: A slightly modified version of this card (along with the other 3 donkey cards) was also used in Arbuckles' larger 100-card set of miscellaneous subjects issued around 1888-89 or so. I believe this smaller set was probably issued first but neither is dated.
SIZE: approx. 3" x 5-1/8"

LITHOGRAPHER: Unknown
CONDITION: Very good, I'd say. The card is only lightly soiled with somewhat worn edges and corners. There's a small diagonal crease across the upper left corner. (Please see scans.)
