To Protect a Princess by Gail Barrett
Silhouette suspense, Paperback 2008 Like New. Silhouette suspense novel. 216 pages. Like new. Love and suspense.
Dara Adams is the sole survivor of her family. Her family, however, was Roma royalty which means she is the remaining royalty for these Gypsies, a princess. Dara is also an archeologist and has gotten wind of the location of an ancient Gypsy artifact—a dagger that was stolen from them long ago. It is hidden in some ruins in Peru.
Her colleague has told her the only man who can help her get to those ruins is Logan Burke. Logan has lived in Peru for quite some time and is a guide to many people as well as a transporter of goods for miners. Both of them are thrown into a situation they weren’t prepared for.
Dara is bound by the "rules" for royalty while Logan is held back by the loss of his first wife, a loss he feels responsible for. As they come to know each other in ways that only a crisis situation can do, Logan discovers her true background and as he is half-Gypsy he knows exactly what that means.
This couple has to deal with the danger of another society that wants the dagger and is willing to do anything to get it along with the ancient beliefs of their own tribe and the personal baggage they each carry.
Gail Barrett has created a suspenseful romance that keeps the reader turning every page. It is fast moving and yet there are touches of gentleness sprinkled all throughout the book. For his gruff exterior and troubled background, Logan comes out of this a true hero. Not only does he keep the woman safe and get the treasure, but he does so with muscle and emotion. It is that emotion which makes the reader’s heart go out to him.
The princess he is protecting, Dara, also comes through the adventure with a lot of good old-fashioned moxie. She is no "protected" princess. She is a strong courageous woman who protects Logan when needed. She comes into this relationship as an equal.
