They are easy to recognize with their moth-like appearance. When at rest they hold their wings tent-like over their abdomens.The adult caddisis a major food source for fish. Trout feed sporadically during the afternoon until dark on adult caddis.Fish the water below a riffle, casting to the small pools as you move upstream. Look for the spent caddis in the slower waters and eddies down stream later in the day. Watch for the splashyhit on your flyand set the hook immediately. To cover the sub-surface feeding trout, use the shallow-nymphing technique with an elk hair caddis as the indicator andor Orangecaddis flytied to the bend of the hook of the elk hair caddis. Fish the tandem flies drift-free; if you find the trout rejecting them, add a slight twitch periodically on the next drift. Fish them both with careful casts and open loops to keep them from tangling in the air. Set the hook if the dry goes under - that's a fish on the other end. If you loose sight of the fly during it's drift, simply lift the rodto see the fly skittering on the surface or possibly if you have a fish on the other end. On lakes and ponds fish with a hand-twist retrieve running the fly across the surface of the water.This fly works especially well when fished near the bottom for trout in streams.
