First off, I would like to say that this item was extremely hard to photograph resulting in poor pictures with lots of camera flash spots and reflections. It is a very shiny porcelain vase with glass like qualities and my camera flash distorted most of the colors and attributes rendering it less beautiful than in person. This piece is entirely hand painted and has no transfer ware painting like cheaper mass produced ones usually seen. This lovely Old Paris vase features an Italian faience style design and are beautifully decorated with a floral scene with roses in a medallion on one side and a portrait painting in a medallion of two young lovers on the other side. The paintings in the medallions are very clear, fully intact and much darker in person not faded like the pictures show. My camera flash washed out the pictures and made them look distorted.The hard paste porcelain body is decorated with cobalt blue and gold gilt enameling with some accents and jewels. On each side it has a mythological grotesque satyr type man with ram horns and a beautiful blue snake like design going down both sides.CONDITION:As is very commonly found on these very old circa early 1800 pieces, it does have wear associated with extreme age. I see no chips or cracks but the gold gilding does have losses, fading and rubs. The ram's head handles may have been touched up with brown paint over the gold gilt. The bolt connecting the base to this piece was replaced. It appears that this piece may have once had a lid which is now long gone. Around the inside of the rim where a lid once may have sat, there appears to be old gunk. I tried to remove it but it wouldn't come off.MARKS & MEASUREMENTS:On the bottom of the base is a blue mark under the glaze that reads V F. This piece is heavy.
