She later moved to New Jersey and was employed as a social worker. She was inspired to write this book while a student in the class of Dr. Ivan Van Sertima at Rutgers University. Dr. Van Sertima teaches a course entitled "African Presence in American Culture". Explains how the cuisine in the South evolved from slavery and is imbued with African heritage transported by the slaves. Very scarce publication (Cookery, Southern States)
