Elizabethan Style Machine Knit Stockings ePattern The general shape of these stockings is historically accurate for the Elizabethan era as best I can tell from photos of period hosiery in the Victoria & Albert museum in London.

Even Henry VIII had knit hose, but they didn't really re-emerge again until the latter time of Elizabeth I when one of her Ladies, Mrs. Montague, knit them for her as a gift. Elizabeth loved those stockings.
~*~
These stockings were made on a Brother 890 Standard Gauge knitting machine with an 8/2 cotton yarn. If you're into Civil War re-enactments, Old West re-enactments, Rendezvous, SCA or RenFaires, then these are the perfect accompaniment to your costuming.
