He has a neighbour astrologer Shastri (dilip) who is rather sly but Shankar's eyes are on Shastri's daughter Suvarnalatha (aarti). He is hopelessly in love with her but Shastri is not up for this alliance. Meanwhile, Suvarnalatha gives an idea. She asks Shankar to come up with a 10 tola gold chain to prove to her dad how capable he is. Shankar is taken by it and he puts everything at stake to make that. However, a shock awaits him once he gets the chain ready. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.
