Vintage " Year of the Pig " Hand carved Fossil Mammoth Ivory Zodiac Chinese Netsuke / Pendant

10,000's years old Fossil Mammoth Ivory. Schreger lines of real Ivory can be seen on the side of the Fossil Ivory.

Although I give them a 1940's date, they might be made as early as 1900, it is impossible for me to be certain except they are certainly Vintage.

This " Pig " Netsuke shows some of the fossil ''bark'' but is clean and smooth on the back.

Ivory size is: 1 7/8" tall x 1 +" wide x 3/8" at the Thickest

This is just one in two sets of similar Antique Netsuke I bought many years ago. They are all, I think, Carved in the Years of the Chinese Zodiac.

I believe this is Vintage Chinese Carved Netsuke but it might be Japanese. I am not certain if the Japanese have a history of Animals as Astrological symbols or used in Horoscopes.

They are all very cute, rare and unusual, will look great being made into a Necklace or framed like some of the Scrimshaw pieces listed. I have made Necklaces using them and have just a few left of the original group.

All signed by the Original Carvers and all show evidence of being Fossil Mammoth Ivory, even have the rough bark on the back of some.

Arrives in a clear top gift box, bubble wrapped, Silk Bag, Satin Ribbon Attached for hanging.

None of my Fossil Ivory is contemporary, and not a single animal has been killed, culled, or otherwise harmed to produce my Fossil Ivories. It is the only perfect, ecologically sound, humane way to wear wonderful and enduring ivory.
