Foreword by Freeman Patterson
Softcover 1st Ed. 1991 - Scarce Title

Description:

Publisher: Lone Pine, Edmonton, AB 1991. ISBN: 1551050102. Softcover 4to (11" tall) in very good condition. Light edgewear to cover, light creasing, war to corner wear, a few very small edge tears. Interior clean & unmarked. Gorgeous colour photos. 80 pages.

"Each magnificent photograph in Flying Colours is an exaggerated close-up of a flying insect, but Robert Chelmick's personal vision has transcended any "bugness" and elevated the images to inspired artistic statements. "To me, Flying Colours is not about insects at all" writes the photographer in his text. The goal of Chelmick's work is the expression of "a hidden wholeness, " a "mysterious unity' of all things. Many of the images you see in Flying Colours are not recognizable as butterflies; and that is as it should be. The subject often becomes secondary to Chelmlck when the patterns, colours and details are revealed through the macro bellows of his camera. People often visualize many different things in the images from views of a planet in space to stained glass to computer generated graphics. Occasionally a butterfly may even reveal itself. "
