Synopsis:
A womanizing CIA agent and an insecure insurance agent are paired together to make sure a deal goes through with aliens for the future of mankind. Jim Belushi plays a super-competent secret agent on the trail of Russian thugs. John Ritter plays a milquetoast dad who gets mixed up in the caper. The story follows their adventures over the course of a week, in which Ritter develops some guts and Belushi gets in touch with his sensitive side. Ritter and Belushi are great together. Slapstick humor mixed with plain old off the wall comedic story telling makes this one of my favorite 'left of center' comedies. Neighborhood bullies, Russian spies, clown agents, pens from outer space, transexual family members, S&M mistresses, and a glass of water...add it up and you get 'Real Men'. Real Men is one of those films that you probably caught yourself watching on HBO more than once back in the day. In fact, you probably don't even remember the name of the film, but remember John Ritter and Jim Belushi and the aliens and the glass of water, and of course the S&M girl. Since John Ritter is my all-time favorite actor, I decided to get this movie. I received it for X-mas and have since then seen it four times! The plot is simple: Bob and Nick need to bring a glass of water to some aliens or else the world is doomed. On their way to Washington D.C., (where they would meet the aliens) they fight off some clowns, shoot at some Russians, meet Nick's dad who recently changed his (or her...) sexuality, etc, etc. OK, this movie may sound a little too strange for many people, but for those of you who like wacky comedies, go ahead and buy it. John is hilarious in it! I was rolling on the floor laughing throughout the movie. It is one of my favorite movies, if not my favorite. Recommended!
