It would be difficult to find a more beautiful example of the Art Nouveau/Art Deco period in jewelry than the one presented here
This elegant necklace is typical of the Art Nouveau/Art Deco period (1895-1935) which flourished in the 1920's in France, in Europe and elsewhere in the US. The Art Deco derived its name from the Exposition des Arts Décoratif et Industriels Modernes held in Paris in 1925. Many themes were prevalent, but Art Nouveau used free forms, dragons, and dragonflies, reptiles and chimeras, foliate and vegetable designs.
The main part of this necklace is a beautiful pendant made of two shades of solid gold -- bright yellow and rose. It has been stored in a safe-deposit box until now which accounts for its nuances of gold. It features an open work design with a grape vine motif complete with its delicate leaves and vine-shoots.
The bail (bale) is covered with a lovely gold heart.
The heavy chain is, in itself, worth its weight in gold. A perfectly designed flat and solid cable chain which ends with two coil spring rings and an added security chain (see photographs) It measures a good 22 inches (57 cm).
Several French hallmarks are visible on the pendant and the chain and the security apparatus. They guarantee the 18-carat content of the necklace.
