Contents: This book is one of a series of monographs on early decorative arts of the Southwest. This particular monograph illustrates decorative motifs used at the old Spanish Missions of Alta California. It is part of a four-year survey of the Mission Period originally commissioned by the Works Progress Administration. These designs were gathered from water-color renderings, restoration drawings, and photographic studies made by the workers who engaged in the critical examination of decorations still available at early Franciscan sites from Mission San Miguel Arcangel southward.
