Contents: This book provides a comprehensive study of the Florida mission provinces of Apalachee,Timucua,and Guale. These were the areas through which the L-shaped chain of mission settlements stretched westward and northward from the Presidio of St. Augustine. At its height in the mid-seventeenth century there were 40 missions manned by 70 friars serving 26,000 Christianized Indians.
