Contents: Col. Jeems Pipes, whose real name was Stephen C. Massett, was an actor and entertainer who in 1849 gave the first public entertainment ever presented in San Francisco. Twenty-five years later he gave a well-received performance at the Enterprise Hall in Anaheim, California and also visited the then new city of Santa Ana. Before leaving Southern California he promised to send to Charles A. Gardiner, publisher of the Southern Californian (formerly the Anaheim Gazette) and account of his impressions of Santa Ana. This booklet contains the text of that letter.
