"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." - Carl Sagan
Unfortunately, no extraordinary evidence exists here, just plenty of "what if" speculation. The author uses gap theory to [insert aliens here] where scientific research has yet to determine the answer. Gap theory is often used by the faithful as a way to credit god with the still-unsolved mysteries of the universe. von Daniken uses it to "prove" alien intervention with absolutely no evidence, extraordinary or otherwise, to back up his claims.
But I knew this going in. The real reason I read this book is because Steven Spielberg and George Lucas used books like this when they were first forming their ideas for the original Indiana Jones movies. See [...]l for more information. In this aspect, the book is quite fun and that is how it merits 3 stars from me. I would give it another half star if it were not labeled "non-fiction". Enjoy it for what it is - entertainment.
