How a radio controlled clock works:
The official standard for time keeping in the United States is the National Atomic Clock in Fort Collins, Colorado. This clock is operated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and is accurate to within ten billionths of a second per day. The NIST constantly broadcasts the Atomic Clock time signal using a low frequency radio transmission. Each radio controlled clock has a small radio receiver built in which seeks out this signal daily and adjusts the clock time setting.
