THE NEW CPSIA AND 100% COTTON FABRICS - On February 10, 2009 the new CPSIA law became effective. This new law covers children's toys as well as child care items. A “children’s toy” means a product intended for a child 12 years of age or younger for use when playing, and a “child care article” means a product that a child 3 and younger would use for sleeping, feeding, sucking or teething.
To help small businesses understand the new law, the Consumer Protection Safety Commission issued a Guide to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) for Small Businesses,
Resellers, Crafters and Charities (hereinafter referred to as the Guide). If you have any questions, you can view the Guide online at: http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/smbus/sbguide.pdf Based on the recommendations of Table B and Table C in the CPSC Guide, dyed and undyed textiles (including cotton) can be used and are ok to sell. We have been reassured by the Guide that the use of 100% cotton fabrics is safe.
CPSIA AND MANUFACTURER TESTING - On January 30, 2009 the CPSC granted a stay for testing and certification by manufacturers until February 10, 2010. As a retailer, we don't recommend the use of untested fabrics in toys or child care items intended for children under the age of 13 years if you are uncomfortable with the guidelines issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission in the Guide. PLEASE - Do not purchase this item if you are not comfortable with the recommendations of The CPSC Guide.
