Wild Yam is very relaxing and is used to soothes the nerves, relieve urinary tract pain, strengthen the liver and gall bladder, for birth control, indigestion and relief of problems during pregnancy Wild Yam is an anti-spasmodic and helps relieve asthma, abdominal and intestinal cramps, menstrual cramps, and arthritic and rheumatic pains. It relieves inflammation in nose and air passages and aids in other pulmonary (lungs) dysfunction.
It reduces stress and has a calming effect. Although it has a progesterone precursor (often a derivative of Wild Yam is used in birth control pills) and is useful for birth control, it also helps to prevent miscarriage and relieves cramps in the uterus area during the third trimester of pregnancy. It can relieve nausea and pain during pregnancy (and after birth). It relieves cramps during the menstrual cycle and helps with hot flashes and discharge during menopause.
