Senna is a powerful laxative for acute constipation. It is a STRONG cathartic (stimulating evacuation of the bowels). It is particularly appropriate when soft stool is required but has a griping effect which can be mollified by taking it with ginger. It is habit forming and can weaken the large intestine so should not be taken more than 10 days at a time. It can work well in cleansing the system during fasting and with large quantities of water can be effective in treating fevers (however, not suggested for children.) ONLY in a laxative combination should Senna be used by pregnant women. Senna is useful for constipation, jaundice and worms. We suggest CKLS instead for pregnant women.
