Built by Danish shipyard Aalborg Vaerft in 1982, it was the first cruise ship custom-built for the company. After serving in Carnival Cruises fleet until 2001, it was sold to Costa Cruises and underwent refitting and refurbishing suitable for the European clientele in Genoa and named "Costa Tropicale". In 2005 it was sold to P&O Australia and named "Pacific Star."
